I finally reached the end of this 20-blanket warp! It always feels so satisfying to watch the last few passes build up on the beam. I took a quick video of what the back of the loom looks like as the warp runs out – and it’s always fun to see whether my counting was correct. (It usually isn’t.) Even with a yarn counter, I still manage to be off somewhere!
And yes, that means loom waste. Fortunately… I have a plan for that.
Now the real work begins: cutting the blankets apart, serging the edges, washing, and hemming each one. My guest room (the only cat-free zone in the house!) will soon smell like wet wool. Once everything is finished, these 20 blankets will head back to the mill. After that, I’ll finally shift gears into a project I’ve been excited about – cotton washcloths. Smaller runs, faster warps, and a chance to play with structure and color in a whole new way. But first… blanket-finishing marathon time!
P.S. Next week I’ll share what I’m doing with all that leftover warp. Spoiler: sweaters.
