Weaving by hand is a slow process, one that is entirely human powered. Products are made with care, with high quality materials, and will last for years. This isn’t fast fashion, making something for a few uses with poor quality craftmanship. Hand weaving has a rich tradition of quality.
I only work with natural materials. That means plants like cotton or linen, and animal fibers, like wool or alpaca. I prefer using local materials when I can. Our textile system is broken, so that means sourcing some of these materials locally can be difficult. I am constantly looking for sustainable yarns and will always tell you where the materials I use came from. The Chesapeake Fibershed is a great source of inspiration for me.
Both naturally dyed and naturally grown colors are used, along with commercially dyed yarns. Information about dyes used, if known, will also be available for each piece I make.
My looms do not use electricity, they are completely hand powered. One was bought new, the other is nearly as old as I am and I got it third hand at least. My looms are made of hardwood, and with care will last for a very long time. I wind warps by hand,
I use sustainable packaging. That means recycled boxes and minimal plastic. Tape and stickers may have some plastic, but I work hard to minimize it. Please recycle your packaging!
My website is hosted on Green Geeks. I chose them because they are the “world’s leading eco-friendly web hosting provider”.
I want my textiles to give joy and peace of mind!
